✈️ United Airlines to Launch Historic Nonstop Flights Between U.S. and Adelaide ✈️
In a game-changing announcement for South Australia, United Airlines will launch the first-ever nonstop flights between the U.S. and Adelaide, starting December 11, 2025 — just in time for the Aussie summer.
The seasonal service will operate three times per week between San Francisco and Adelaide, making United the only airline offering nonstop flights to four Australian cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and now Adelaide. With this addition, United strengthens its position as the leading carrier from the continental U.S. to Australia.
The flights will be a major boost for South Australia’s economy, significantly improving access for tourism, trade, business events and conferences. No longer will South Aussies need to endure the hassle of detouring through Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane — or even taking a bus to an international terminal — just to get to the U.S.
Operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the flight features 257 seats, including 48 in Polaris Business Class and 21 in United Premium Plus.
First flight from San Francisco to Adelaide: 11 December 2025
First return flight from Adelaide to San Francisco: 13 December 2025
Flight schedule: Arrives Adelaide at 9:30am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, departs at 2:55pm the same day.
United’s San Francisco hub opens up easy one-stop access to over 75 U.S. destinations, including New York, Orlando, Las Vegas, Denver, Seattle, and Washington D.C. The route also serves as a game-changer for travellers from Perth, currently without any direct access to the U.S.
United Airlines, the world’s largest airline by available seat miles, has partnered with Virgin Australia since 2022, offering codeshare flights and loyalty benefits for both Velocity and MileagePlus members.
This new route also strengthens South Australia’s ties with a key strategic partner in the United States. With significant trade links — including exports like wine, beef, produce and nuts — and ongoing collaboration through AUKUS, the new flights are set to enhance both diplomatic and economic ties.
The U.S. remains a vital visitor market for Australia, with 669,000 American travellers spending $2 billion in the year ending December 2024. These new flights provide direct access to that growing market.
🎟️ Tickets are on sale now.
Get ready to fly direct from Adelaide to the USA for the very first time!
