Mount Lofty Ranges locals β fire season isnβt over yet.
The Fire Danger Season for the Mount Lofty Ranges has been extended by two weeks to 14 May, due to exceptionally dry conditions, high fuel loads in forest and scrub, and no meaningful rain forecast for the coming months.
While most other districts β including the Mid North, Murraylands, Riverland, Lower and Upper South East, Yorke Peninsula, Adelaide Metro and Kangaroo Island β will see their fire season end as scheduled on 30 April, the risk in the Mount Lofty Ranges remains too high to ignore.
π« Donβt let the cooler days fool you β the bushfire risk is still real.
πΎ Soil remains dry, fuel is abundant, and fire behaviour is still worrying local volunteers.
π₯ Just last weekend, fire crews responded to a concerning blaze at Bull Creek.
Acting Deputy Chief Officer Brenton Hastie says with April, May and even parts of June predicted to stay dry, the threat isnβt going anywhere soon.
> βThe risk of fire wonβt abate until there is significant rainfall. Weβre asking the community to stay alert and continue to follow Fire Danger Season restrictions.β
So far this season, CFS volunteers have responded to over 5,100 incidents, including the Wilmington fire in February and lightning events in the South East. Aerial support has also seen a surge, with nearly 3,000 water drops made over 1,920 flight hours β highlighting how intense this season has been.
π‘ Heading away for Easter?
Fire restrictions still apply across much of SA. Before lighting a campfire, check local rules β especially in National Parks and Forestry areas.
Letβs not get complacent β stay fire aware and help protect our communities. π
