🚨 Fatal Truck Crash on SA Highway – Driver Charged 🚨

A 57-year-old man from Marleston has been charged over a fiery truck crash that tragically killed a 77-year-old Port Augusta man on the Port Wakefield Highway early Thursday morning.

The devastating collision saw both trucks erupt into flames, with firefighters working for hours to bring the blaze under control. Tragically, the Port Augusta man died at the scene. His passenger, a 39-year-old Elizabeth Downs man, and the Marleston driver both sustained minor injuries.

β€œThis is a heartbreaking time as we remember a beloved friend, family man, and a seasoned figure in the SA transport industry,” a loved one said.

The Marleston man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and has lost his licence on the spot. He is set to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on June 11.

The Port Wakefield Hwy has now fully reopened after closures and traffic restrictions caused major delays.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen the trucks before the crash or has information about the weather conditions at the time to come forward.

The crash marks the 26th life lost on SA roads this yearβ€”just a day after police urged all South Aussies to take care on the roads over the Easter long weekend.

πŸ’” Let’s all do our part to stay safe and prevent more tragedies like this.
