A major Kilkenny fire has destroyed a building in Adelaide’s western suburbs after firefighters battled a large blaze early Sunday morning.
The Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) was called to Humphrey Street, Kilkenny, just before 6am after reports of a structure fire.
When crews arrived, firefighters found the building fully alight, with the roof already collapsed due to the intensity of the fire.
Because of the severe structural damage, firefighters were forced to undertake a defensive firefighting strategy rather than entering the building.
Five MFS appliances attended the scene, including a specialist aerial appliance used to attack the blaze from above, along with a command vehicle coordinating operations.
A total of 24 firefighters worked to bring the fire under control.
According to the MFS, quick action by crews prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings, with firefighters successfully containing the fire to the building of origin within approximately 20 minutes.
Firefighters remained on scene later Sunday morning extinguishing hotspots and monitoring the structure for flare-ups.
At this stage, no injuries have been reported and the cause of the Kilkenny fire remains under investigation.
The incident comes after a busy night for emergency services across South Australia, with storms, heavy rain and flash flooding leading to numerous SES and MFS callouts overnight.
Authorities are reminding residents to avoid fire-damaged areas and always call Triple Zero (000) in emergencies.
The latest emergency information is available from the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service.
