Fans around the world are sending their support to music icon Bonnie Tyler after reports emerged that the 74-year-old singer suffered a cardiac arrest while recovering from emergency surgery in Portugal.

According to multiple international media outlets, the “Total Eclipse of the Heart” star was hospitalised in Faro, Portugal, late last month for emergency intestinal surgery after reportedly suffering complications from a ruptured appendix and infection.

Reports say Tyler was later placed into a medically induced coma to assist with her recovery. During attempts to wake her, doctors reportedly had to resuscitate the singer following a cardiac arrest. Despite the frightening ordeal, close friends and medical staff are said to be optimistic about her recovery.

A statement previously released via Tyler’s official channels confirmed that the surgery itself had been successful and thanked fans for their support and well wishes.

The Welsh superstar rose to global fame in the late 1970s and 1980s with massive hits including “It’s a Heartache”, “Holding Out for a Hero” and the timeless power ballad “Total Eclipse of the Heart”, which remains one of the biggest songs of the decade.

Tyler had been preparing to begin her upcoming European tour later this month before her sudden health emergency.

Everyone here at BitWaves is wishing Bonnie Tyler a full and speedy recovery.
