Heavy rain has smashed August daily rainfall records across parts of South Australia, with flooding affecting roads and communities across the state. Mount Lofty recorded 56 millimetres, Port Lincoln 49mm, Edithburgh 44mm and Cummins 35mm, while Lenswood received around 65mm. The SES has responded to more than 100 incidents, and a minor flood warning remains in place for the Onkaparinga River around Old Noarlunga. Telstra services have also been disrupted around Yorketown after water damaged equipment at the local exchange.
Driver Seriously Injured After Adelaide Metro Bus Crashes at Port Adelaide
An Adelaide Metro bus driver has been seriously injured after the bus crashed into a concrete railway bridge support on Commercial Road at Port Adelaide this morning. Emergency crews spent more than an hour freeing the 37-year-old driver, who required treatment including blood transfusions before being taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious but stable condition. A 28-year-old female passenger was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while three others were treated at the scene.

Protesters opposing proposed development of Adelaide's eastern park lands have established an encampment in the historic olive grove at Pakapakanthi/Park 16. The group says it is prepared to use non-violent civil disobedience if trees are threatened, while Adelaide Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith says camping in the park lands will not be supported by the council. The dispute follows Sunday's large “Stop the Chop” rally against proposed tree removals associated with park lands developments.

A neglected State Heritage-listed building on Payneham Road could be given a new lease on life after its owner lodged plans for restoration. Bell's Plumbers Shop at College Park has deteriorated for more than three decades and was badly damaged by an explosion in 2008 and another fire in 2017. The City of Norwood Payneham and St Peters says it is pleased an application to restore the property has now been lodged.
