Police cadet charged over alleged relationship with teenager
A 23-year-old South Australian police cadet has been charged with two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse involving a boy aged under 17.
The alleged offences are reported to have occurred in Adelaide’s northern suburbs during June.
The cadet has been suspended from duties with pay while the matter progresses through the courts and is expected to appear again in October.
Adelaide MotoGP controversy continues
Debate surrounding plans to bring MotoGP racing to the Adelaide Park Lands continues to intensify.
Premier Peter Malinauskas has indicated the State Government intends to proceed with the event despite a petition attracting more than 40,000 signatures from people calling for the proposal to be stopped.
Opponents have raised concerns about the impact of the proposed street circuit on the Park Lands, while questions have also been raised about potential disruption to Adelaide’s O-Bahn network during construction and event preparations.
The State Government maintains the event would provide a significant tourism and economic boost for South Australia.
Yorke Peninsula residents report Census problems
Some residents on the Yorke Peninsula say they never received information needed to complete this month’s Census.
Residents have reported Census material failing to arrive despite some affected communities being less than two hours from Adelaide.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has been dealing with enquiries from residents who were unable to access or complete the Census in the usual way.
OzAsia Festival to finish after 20 years
Adelaide’s OzAsia Festival will come to an end following its 2026 program.
The Adelaide Festival Centre has confirmed this year will be the final standalone OzAsia Festival after two decades.
The decision has prompted disappointment from parts of South Australia’s Asian-Australian arts community.
The Festival Centre says Asian and Asian-Australian artists and stories will instead be incorporated throughout its broader year-round programming.
Gather Round returning in April 2027
The AFL has confirmed South Australia will again host Gather Round in 2027.
Next year’s event will run from 8 to 11 April, coinciding with the South Australian school holidays.
Organisers are promising an expanded festival atmosphere, including a new player parade.
The State Government says the 2026 edition of Gather Round generated a record economic contribution of around $115 million for South Australia.
Former Adelaide Crow launches $1.2 million legal action
Former Adelaide Crows player Ricky Henderson is pursuing legal action against the AFL and Fox Sports over television footage broadcast in 2013.
Henderson is seeking more than $1.2 million in damages after footage from inside a change room allegedly exposed his genitals during a live broadcast.
Both the AFL and Fox Sports are contesting the claim.
Overnight police incidents across Adelaide
South Australia Police have also reported a number of incidents overnight.
These include an alleged drink driver at Glengowrie, an arrest following a police operation at a licensed premises in the same suburb, and a driver at Blakeview who allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test.
Police investigations into the respective incidents are continuing.
