Bird Flu Outbreak Escalates Across South Australia
South Australia is facing growing concern over the spread of avian influenza after more than 1,000 crested terns were found dead in a series of mass mortality events across the state.
The deaths have been recorded on several offshore islands, including Troubridge Island and the North and South Page Islands, with authorities investigating H5N1 avian influenza as the likely cause.
Wildlife experts have warned the scale of the deaths could be an early sign of a much broader impact on South Australia’s native bird populations.
Adding to those concerns, a suspected case involving a little penguin on Kangaroo Island is also being investigated.
The outbreak is already beginning to affect major events, with poultry competitions at the Royal Adelaide Show cancelled as a precaution. The South Australian Government is also considering whether targeted vaccination could be used to help protect particularly vulnerable native bird species.
MotoGP Debate Continues Over Adelaide Park Lands

A previously confidential letter has revealed tensions between the South Australian Motorsport Board and Adelaide City Council, with concerns raised over environmental monitoring, possible tree removals and the impact on the Adelaide Park Lands.
Premier Peter Malinauskas has maintained the government’s support for the planned 2027 MotoGP event despite a petition opposing aspects of the proposal attracting around 40,000 signatures.
New Restrictions for Adult Entertainment Venues
New planning restrictions have been introduced in Adelaide, preventing new strip clubs, sex shops and other adult entertainment venues from opening in several prominent parts of the CBD and North Adelaide.
Existing businesses will be allowed to continue operating, but new developments will face much tighter restrictions.
BMW Stolen During St Peters Break-In
Police are searching for those responsible after a BMW SUV was stolen during a break-in at St Peters early Friday morning.
The vehicle was later allegedly used in a fuel drive-off at Hope Valley before police located it at Parafield Gardens after tracking it by GPS.
The vehicle has been recovered, while investigations into those responsible are continuing.
P-Plater Crashes Into Modbury Shopfront
A 17-year-old P-plater escaped injury after a Subaru crashed into a travel agency on North East Road at Modbury on Thursday night.
SES crews were called to secure the damaged building, while police issued the driver with an expiation notice.
Man Charged After Homemade Taser Allegedly Found in Berri
In the Riverland, a 27-year-old man has been charged after police allegedly found a homemade taser, knife, methamphetamine and cannabis while stopping an e-bike rider at Berri.
He is expected to appear in the Berri Magistrates Court next month.
