Issued Sunday, 1 March 2026 — 6:52pm

The South Australian State Emergency Service has issued an important safety warning for people travelling in parts of the state’s north.

At 5:00pm, the SES issued a Flood Watch and Act message for the Flinders area due to the risk of flooding caused by possible intense local rainfall.

Emergency crews are currently responding to multiple incidents involving vehicles trapped by floodwaters.

Since midnight, the SES has carried out six swiftwater rescues, including three rescues within the past 90 minutes in the Mid-North region. These incidents involved people driving into floodwater or becoming isolated when roads were inundated.

The SES is urging the public to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas, particularly:

  • North of Jamestown

  • Yunta

  • Orroroo

  • Peterborough

🚫 Do NOT drive through floodwater

Entering floodwater — whether driving, walking, riding, or swimming — is extremely dangerous and places both the public and emergency responders at risk.

✅ Safety reminders:

  • Keep children away from floodwater, creeks, and storm drains.

  • Water levels and flow can change rapidly and may be deeper than they appear.

  • Do not camp or park near creek beds, even if they are dry, as they can fill quickly from upstream rainfall.

📞 Need assistance?

  • SES Storm or Flood Assistance: 132 500

  • Life-threatening emergency: Call 000

Stay informed and follow official warnings.
