South Australians are being told to prepare for a wet and windy end to the week, with a strong weather system expected to bring widespread showers, gusty winds and possible thunderstorms across several parts of the state on Friday.

Adelaide is forecast to receive periods of rain throughout the day, with showers also expected across the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula, Fleurieu Peninsula, Murraylands and parts of the South East.

Forecasters say some areas could experience heavier bursts of rain and isolated thunderstorms as the system moves through, while strong winds are also expected to impact coastal and elevated regions later in the day.

Motorists are being urged to drive carefully during Friday’s commute, with wet roads and reduced visibility likely during heavier showers.

The cooler conditions will bring a noticeable change after recent milder weather, with temperatures expected to remain below average across many parts of South Australia heading into the weekend.

While the rain may disrupt outdoor plans, the rainfall will be welcomed by many farming communities and regional areas that have seen a relatively dry start to the year.

The Bureau of Meteorology is encouraging residents to stay updated with the latest forecasts and any severe weather warnings as conditions develop.
