A Vodafone outage Australia issue left customers struggling to make calls, send messages and use mobile data on Thursday morning, with reports of service problems coming from several parts of the country.
The disruption triggered thousands of user reports, with some customers saying their phones had dropped into “SOS only” mode. Outage tracking site Downdetector showed a sharp rise in Vodafone reports during the morning, while Vodafone said some customers were experiencing intermittent mobile service issues.
TPG Telecom, which owns Vodafone Australia, said it was aware of the problem and was urgently investigating. The company apologised to affected customers and advised users to restart their devices while work continued to restore services.

Reports of the Vodafone outage Australia issue increased early on Thursday morning.
News.com.au reported more than 8,260 outage reports were lodged on Downdetector around 9:05am. Customers reported problems with phone calls, mobile internet and complete service dropouts.
Some users also reported being unable to access Vodafone’s network status checker during the disruption. Vodafone’s official network page normally allows customers to check planned upgrades, maintenance and outages in their area.
Some Vodafone customers said their phones showed “SOS only”, meaning the device could not connect to the normal mobile network.
Reports came from major cities including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Canberra. News Corp outlets also reported issues in Darwin and other parts of the country.
Vodafone had not confirmed the exact cause of the outage at the time of writing.
Vodafone and TPG Telecom said technical teams were investigating the issue.
The company advised affected customers to restart their phones. Vodafone’s troubleshooting advice also recommends checking mobile data settings, network coverage and 4G or 5G settings.
A restart may help some customers reconnect, but network-level faults usually require the provider to restore service before all users can get back online.
Customers who cannot make calls should try Wi-Fi calling, messaging apps over Wi-Fi, or another available phone.
Anyone who needs urgent help should call Triple Zero from another working service if their Vodafone phone cannot connect.
Customers can also check Vodafone’s official network status page or Downdetector for updates, although user-reported outage sites may not always reflect the full scale or exact cause of a network problem.
