BitWaves South Australia's 90's and 2000's
Now, I’d just like to disclose firstly, that the writer of this story is not a West End drinker or even a beer drinker but this is still a sad day.
It was announced by the owners of The West End Brewery that in June next year the brewery will shut its doors for good, stating that
“West End has been operating well below its full production capacity for some time now and unfortunately this is no longer viable. We have come to this proposal as the best way to ensure we have a sustainable brewing network for the future.“
“The Australian beer market has been in long-term decline for the past decade as Australian drinkers choose other beverages, like wine, over beer. Per capita beer consumption has dropped around 20 percent in this time.“
“Our input costs have continued to rise against this backdrop of declining volume, and a further drop in draught beer sales as a result of the pandemic.’’
This will put unfavorable pressure on unemployment however Lion says that it will have a reskilling fund of up to $1 million and will be making redundancy payouts too,
So this is a sad day for South Australia and leaves an uncertain future for “the red tins”
We at BitWaves wish all the employees and their family’s well.
