Two people have been charged with serious drug-trafficking offences after South Australia Police allegedly uncovered kilograms of illicit drugs, more than $72,000 in cash, vehicles and luxury items during a search in Adelaide’s inner south.
Detectives from SAPOL’s Serious and Organised Crime Branch searched a property at Highgate on Friday, 25 September, as part of an investigation into alleged drug trafficking. South Australia Police
Kilograms of drugs allegedly uncovered
Police allege officers located a substantial quantity of drugs during the search, including approximately 3 kilograms of cocaine, 871 grams of ketamine, 385 grams of MDMA and 700 grams of cannabis.
Investigators also allegedly found $72,595 in cash at the property. South Australia Police
The quantities involved resulted in police laying charges relating to both commercial and large commercial quantities of controlled drugs.
Man and woman arrested
A 30-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were arrested following the search.
Police have charged the pair with two counts of trafficking a commercial quantity of a controlled drug, two counts of trafficking a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug, and trafficking a controlled drug. South Australia Police
Both were refused police bail and are expected to appear before the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, 28 September.
The allegations have not yet been tested in court.
Vehicles, jewellery and watches also seized
Police also seized a Renault van and Suzuki SUV, along with what SAPOL described as a large amount of jewellery and watches.
Those items were seized in connection with the alleged offending under South Australia’s Criminal Assets Confiscation Act 2005. South Australia Police
Media reports have described some of the seized items as luxury goods, although police have not publicly provided a full valuation of the jewellery, watches or vehicles. Adelaide Now
Police target alleged organised drug networks
Detective Chief Inspector Philip Neagle from SAPOL’s Serious and Organised Crime Branch said the seizure demonstrated the continuing effort to disrupt people allegedly involved in supplying illicit drugs.
Police say investigations targeting drug trafficking are aimed not only at seizing narcotics, but also disrupting the financial assets and networks associated with their distribution. South Australia Police
The Highgate arrests come little more than a week after a separate SAPOL investigation allegedly uncovered around 500 grams of cocaine, $91,000 in cash and two firearms during searches at Richmond, Thebarton and North Adelaide. South Australia Police
Public urged to report suspected drug activity
SAPOL is asking anyone with information about the sale, supply, manufacture or distribution of illicit drugs to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Information can be provided anonymously.
The two people charged over the Highgate seizure are due to face court on Monday.
